Tzu-Yu Chen

TzuYu Chen is a Taiwanese pianist who can make connections with people through her warm music. She believes sharing music can touch people's hearts. Since she loves to explore various music types and instruments, like J.S. Bach and F. Chopin. Her expertise is not limited to piano but also other instruments such as double bass, organ, mandolin, voice, and the traditional Chinese instrument the ‘Zhongruan.’

TzuYu is sensitive to music and enjoys working with others, so she won 1st place in chamber music at her college and won a distinction award in Piano Duet from the Piano Duet Competition in Taiwan. At a young age because of her talent, she participated in the international competition, the 5th Kawai Asia Piano Competition. In addition, She have been awarded the Lillian Hirschmann Konowitz Memorial Scholarship and Premier Talent Scholarship from Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University.

Because these awards allowed her to accumulate musical experience, she had many performances on her road of music. She held her Solo Piano Recital in April 2023, Piano Duo first prize concert, and Chamber Music Competition winner concert at Taipei National University of the Arts’ concert hall. In addition, she performed in various venues such as the Dance Theatre and the Shui-Long MA Concert Hall. She also played double bass at the National Theater & National Concert Hall.

TzuYu dedicates herself to helping people. She performed volunteer concerts in cancer hospitals because she believes music can heal everyone. In addition to performing, she helps others with her leadership skills. She was the student representative of her college and the general coordinator for te new students’ "tea party orientation”, the Deputy Convenor of new student campus orientation, and the Deputy Convenor of the 5th Students Council of TNUA. Through these experiences, she can expand her network and meet more artists.

When she was 4, she started her music and piano studies in talented music schools in Taiwan, graduated from Taipei National University of the Arts (TNUA) with a Bachelor of Music. In 2023, she started studying for a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University where she is studying under Prof.Alexander Shtarkman.
